APW - Ball Hamilton, Official Standard, Grade 998 Elinvar, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original Ball Official RR Standard stirrup bow case with pattern engraving to rear, white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, mono-metallic balance with blued Elinvar hairspring, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, bull's-eye pattern nickel damascene, s#B652223. An excellent example of this top quality railroad watch, the Grade 998 Elinvar had a total production of 2700 made and was produced between 1939 and 1942.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates with few tiny micro-fine scratches, regulator spring with some small bits of oxide, larger winding wheel with very small oxide spot at perimeter; nearly flawless dial with mild fine perimeter scratch at 1, tiny edge nick under bezel near 5, pinpoint surface nick at 4:30; excellent hands, mild bend to tip of hour; case shows little wear, mild ding toward right perimeter of rear, good engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
